This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is all about under-rated books. These are all books that I think any contemporary YA fan should read, but may not have heard much about.
The Princesses of Iowa by M. Molly Backes: This is a book I will champion forever. It’s one of my all time favorites that I’ve read over and over throughout the past few years and I feel like no one knows about it?!
Why Can’t I Be You by Allie Larkin: Not YA but still great! The main character, Jenny, is mistaken for someone else named Jessie, and she decides to just go along with it! Jenny attends Jessie’s high school reunion and “reconnects” with Jessie’s old friends and ex-boyfriends, and it’s totally enjoyable to read.
Dig Too Deep by Amy Allgeyer: Like Erin Brockovich for YA! This one’s about a girl who has to go live with her ailing grandma in rural Kentucky, and realizes that ever since the top of the nearby mountain was blown off for mining, the town’s water supply has been contaminated and the residents are all suffering from a number of health problems.
Up to this Pointe by Jennifer Longo: Harper is an aspiring professional ballerina who is told, after making ballet her entire life for years, that she just isn’t good enough. So she goes to Antarctica to find herself again and it’s amazing. Read my full review here!
Written in the Stars by Aisha Saaed: This is a quick read that I flew threw in one night, about a high school girl whose parents take her on a ‘trip to see family’ back in Pakistan that ends with her in an arranged marriage and trying to escape back to America and the boy she really loves. It’s so insightful into Pakistani culture and was such an interesting read along with being such a whirlwind of a story!
Have you read any of these? If not, are you planning to add anything to your TBR? Let me know!
